There is a point in every geocacher's journey when they decide that they too want to be the ones cleverly hiding these geocaches. Whether you have been finding them for years, or just months anytime is a great time to start hiding geocaches. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you along the way.
Get An Idea
Get an idea for a cache. Is there a special place you want people to see? Do you want to make a puzzle for fellow geocachers to solve? Whatever your idea is, make sure to plan it out. If you don't have an idea, then keep finding geocaches. Grab inspiration and ideas from your favorite caches in order to make the best geocache ever.
Read The Guidelines
Read the guidelines to ensure that your idea has the possibility to become a reality. After you have read them, take this quiz to ensure that you understood everything correctly.
Choose Your Location
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Pick the location that is best for your cache. Remember, all geocaches should be at least 528 feet away from each ther. Make sure that it is accessible to most people without too much exercise or expertise. (i.e: don't put your geocache in the top of a tree unless that is the main idea of the geocache)
Submit For Review
Place your geocache where you want it to be. Go to the Hide a Cache page and start filling out the information. Make sure you put exact coordinates!!! Now, all you have to do is wait for the reviewer to approve it. Make sure you communicate with them! It shouldn't take more than 5 days for it to be reviewed and published.
Note: Don't forget to maintain your cache. Make regular visits to ensure that it is in good condition so that others can continue to enjoy your geocache for years to come. Stay safe and have fun!!!
