Geobags
Your Geobag is a very important part of your geocaching experience. The tools and materials it contains could be the difference between having to go home early and spending hours geocaching. Below, I will show you what I have in my Geobag and what to include in yours.
What is a Geobag?
A Geobag is the bag you bring with you to go geocaching. Its contents can change based on the expedition and the caches you are looking for. It can also be a box, sack, crate, bucket, or even wagon. What’s important is that it is convenient for you.
My Geobag
I use a small Camelbak backpack as my Geobag because it is light, convenient, and it has a water bladder.
In the small top pocket I put my hiding materials. This includes loaded micros, extra logs, and a notebook for owner logs.
In the large bottom pocket, I keep my finding supplies. This includes a magnifying glass, band-aids, string, toothpicks and a dowel, a Swiss Army knife, and paper clips. I keep my all my pens in my pocket for quick reach.
There is an area behind this pouch where I keep paracord and my swag bag.
My Swag Bag
The contents of my swag bag are constantly changing, but at the time of writing this, I have 4 rings, 1 bottle of hand sanitizer, 1 pin, and 2 carabiners.
If you’re unsure of what to put in your swag bag, just think about what kinds of things you would like to find when you are geocaching. I’m working on finding a silly plush toy that will hopefully make someone laugh because that is exactly what I would want to find! Also, be sure to have swag of varying sizes so that you can fill small caches and large caches!
What I would want to add to my Geobag:
I want to add a log roller, a couple more micros, more first aid equipment, and definitely some tweezers!!! I am working on getting these, but I am having a little trouble finding these things around my house. I could have sworn that I saw the perfect little micro tube in my garage last week, but now it’s disappeared.
What should you put in your Geobag?
This varies for everyone, but here is a list of what I think are the bare essentials:
- Pens!!! At least 2 of different sizes because you never know when there might be a very small log
- Swag. You can’t just take stuff! Remember, if you take an item, you must replace it with an item of equal or greater value
- First Aid equipment. You never know when you might get hurt. :/
- Your preferred TOTT. Maybe a log roller or some tweezers, whatever you need!
These are just some suggestions. You can take as much or as little as you want. Also, don’t forget to match your equipment to the geocaches you are looking for. Don’t bring a rubber duck as swag if you are only visiting micro caches. Bring some comfy boots if you are hiking. Have a compass if you are in the wilderness. Whatever you do, just remember to stay safe and have fun!!!
